It’s No Wonder Artists Find Such Inspiration in Breckenridge!

  • August 17, 2017

One of the things guests and locals alike love most about Breckenridge is our rich and vibrant art scene. Today I’ll leave my job at our Breckenridge hotel, grab a bite downtown and boogie over to the Riverwalk Center to see Rhiannon Giddens wail on the microphone. On my way through town, I’ll see several art installations which are part of the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA) and I’ll stop to throw a couple of bucks in the guitar case of the four-piece bluegrass band doing a pop-up performance in Blue River Plaza. If I’m in the right place at the right time, I’ll...

With 5 courses to choose from, you’re bound to find your new favorite place to play. Come stay at our conveniently located Breckenridge hotel, take advantage of our short season and play today! At or above 9,000 ft. the air is thin and the ball travels further - over 10% further in fact (feet above sea level x .00116)!  The ball also stays straighter due to the air being less dense. The air imparts less force on the ball, therefore it won’t slice or hook as much...

There’s Something Magical About Breckenridge

  • March 17, 2017

Breckenridge locals and visitors alike all know that there is a certain something magical – maybe even mystical – about Breckenridge. And while we may not all agree on just what and where this magic emanates from, we all can agree that there is indeed something fairytale-like about this enchanted place. There’s those awe-inspiring majestic views of the Rocky Mountains that seem to go on forever, the pristine mountain lakes you swear could hide a gossip of mermaids, locals praying to the mythical God Ullr every winter, and those imposing forests that make you feel very insignificant. Whatever...

Breckenridge, Scandinavia & the Wedgewood Lodge: What Do They All Have in Common?

  • December 29, 2016

Summit County, and Breckenridge in particular, is steeped rich in history. From the initial days of the Gold Rush to the vacation destination it is today, there have been many changes over the years. However, our short history pales in comparison to the transformations the Scandinavian regions of Norway and Sweden have seen over the centuries. But, if one was to look closely at the mountain topography (see below), one can see why Norwegians, Fins and Swedes seem to find themselves at home in the mountains of Breckenridge. One such Norweigan, Trygve Berge, has done just that by becoming one of the original...

Welcome Brad Ragan to Our Breckenridge Hotel Team

  • September 22, 2016

'Tis the season of change. The leaves are changing colors in all of their grandeur, the weather is getting colder as the forecast of snow looms on the horizon, and a new U.S. President will be elected this November. So, it's only natural that our Breckenridge hotel follows suit as change is afoot with the hiring of our newest Guest Services Manager, Brad Ragan. Please help the Wedgewood Lodge welcome Brad to the team. A Minnesota native, Brad moved to Breckenridge 13 years ago after receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Advertising from Iowa State University and hasn't looked back since. While...

Metanoia

  • January 28, 2016

My favorite event in Breck is the International Snow Sculpting Championships. Because my birthday falls during the building week or viewing week each year, watching the volunteers create the blocks of snow, seeing the sculptors’ visions emerge and checking out the finished sculptures have been part of my annual celebration for nearly two decades. As one of the lodging sponsors for this event, it’s quite a treat to get to meet the teams and to follow their progress as they create art from snow! This year we are hosting one the teams from Germany. Their sculpture, Metanoia, is guaranteed...

So Long, Farewell…

  • April 3, 2015

_________________________________________________________________ It is with a bit of a sniffle that we bid farewell to yodeling and lederhosen jokes.  And our fearless leader, Brigitte Rath, who once had the patience to try to teach me to say 'cutie' in her Austrian dialect, but I ran out of saliva on my second attempt. So, being the boss around here?  Well...let's put it this way... We're a rather, hm, interesting bunch.  And it takes a special kind of person to keep us in line.  One who isn't afraid to shred vacation requests when we get a little too rambunctious....

Don’t Ski? Don’t Worry.

  • March 6, 2015

Breckenridge is still the place for you! When I moved here from Jersey in December '99 it was because I had visited and found the mountains absolutely spiritual. I felt I was home in a way I never had before. Mind you I will bust out my Inner Jersey Girl in a hot minute if you dare mention that ridiculous show about idiots when I tell you where I'm from. I have never met anyone who acts even close to anyone on The Jersey Shore.  And I have known some Italians.  Believe you me!  Ahem. But though I'll always be a Jersey Girl, Breckenridge is where I belong. Having worked at the Wedgewood...
